Blooming Lilies.jpg

Artist Statement

All around me, I see the world blossoming. Flowers are blooming, fruit is ripening, children are growing, and colors are exploding. In my art, I love to explore the lusciousness of the natural world. Through painting the moving and growing world, it can be captured and exaggerated to show the pleasure of viewing our stunning surroundings. Life and growth are contrasted with skulls and withering flowers; there is no life without death and no pleasure without pain. My pieces are beautiful and colorful, but also moody and a reminder of life’s fleeting nature.

Biography

I create nature and floral art with a whimsical sense of movement. Most of my work is painting, but I love the exploration that the studio brings so my practice includes bookmaking, collage, printmaking, poetry, and more. In recent years, I have been sick. Sick enough that I spent most of my time in pain and sleeping. The tiny bit of movement and energy I could spare was all for my child. Now as I continue to heal and improve all I see is my desire to bloom and watch things grow around me. My art is a story of joy, the desire to create that is no longer stifled by illness. A story of the desire to not only survive but thrive and tend to beautiful growth.

The art process is different with motherhood and healing. Every moment feels incredibly precious. I devour every moment painting in my studio and garden. That burning desire comes forth in my work. Bright colors, a luscious flow, my flowers roll like poetry across the canvas reaching towards the light. All around me, I see the world blossoming. Flowers are blooming, fruit is ripening, children are growing, and colors are exploding. Through painting the moving and growing world, I want to capture and exaggerate to show my pleasure in viewing our stunning surroundings.
